Birubi Beach - Off Leash Dog Friendly

Birubi Beach is dog friendly all day, every day!

The even better part is that it's off leash before 9am and after 5pm. All other times are ok for you to have your dog on the beach as long as they are on a leash (and 100 metres away from the flagged area).

If you are lucky enough to visit between May and September, it is now permitted to have your pups off lead at all times.

Birubi Beach is the most popular destination in the Port Stephens area, spanning part of the 34 kilometre stretch of Stockton Bright. The coastal stretch is exposed to the wind and waves. This end of the beach is perfect for all activities from surfing, swimming and wind surfing.

North Easterly sea breezes are protected making super clean conditions all summer long.

The northern corner is hidden away from the sea breeze with outcrops, providing a more peaceful place to explore. The small bays are perfect for small kids, the dog, or if you would like to escape the waves. The outcrops are great for the kids to explore with small rock pools and creatures of the sea. They also provide a great spot to fish from and you may see the regular locals catching fresh fish for dinners daily.

The area on which Stockton Bright lies belongs to the Worimi people who manage the area in conjunction with National Parks and Wildlife Services. On the northern headland there are little pathways that wind through the natural landscape to hidden picnic spots perfect for watching the sunsets. Keep an eye out along the path for the beautiful aboriginal middens!

Birubi Beach is 32 kilometres (so plenty of space to spread out) and belongs to the ever-shifting sand dunes. Some of these sand dunes reach heights of up to 50 metres which make for majestic views, feeling like you are in the middle of a desert! A wide range of tours operate from the beach (behind the surf club) from camel rides, 4wd tours, quad biking and sand boarding.

It is one of our favourite spots in summer for sunset picnics with the dogs.
